The Corelli Academic Curriculum

The academic curriculum forms the basis to all other programmes scheduled at Corelli. Primary and Intermediate students follow the Corelli Curriculum which is based on the New Zealand curriculum, with aspects of the Cambridge programme being introduced in the intermediate years, and Senior pupils study the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) curriculum.

All students graduate with IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) or higher (Advanced Subsidiary and/or Advanced Level) as well as their chosen international performance examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity/Guildhall, and/or Royal Academy of Dance.

These main subjects are specially designed into programmes delivered by the teaching staff in such a way that cross-curriculum opportunities and inspirational teaching methods enhance the child’s comprehension. For example, learning about bacteria in Science class may not only consist of looking into microscopes and text books, but also of sewing together “bacteria” puppets and creating puppet shows about how certain bacteria might behave. While making their puppets in Art or Technology class, the child is encouraged to think about what kind of textures and features their puppet may need.

In English class, the students may learn creative writing by going to the beach and ‘painting’ a landscape with words.

In Mathematics a child can learn ratios by baking cupcakes, and then in Health discover why we eat cupcakes in moderation!
