Mission Statement:

"The Corelli School is to take all steps to develop excellence in the performing and visual arts, combined with academic achievement, in a select group of young people."




General Curriculum:

The Corelli School places importance on academic achievement in all curriculum areas.

ENGLISH:

Oral Language

  • To develop pupil's understanding of the spoken word and the capacity to express themselves effectively in a variety of speaking and listening activities, matching style and response to audience and purpose.

Reading

  • To develop the ability to read, understand, and respond to all types of writing, as well as the development of information-retrieval strategies for the purposes of study.

Written Language

  • To extend the ability to read, understand, and respond to all types of writing, as well as the development of information-retrieval strategies for the purposes of study. To develop the ability to construct and convey meaning in written language matching style to audience and purpose, incorporating correct Spelling and legible Handwriting.

Visual Language

  • To develop viewing and presenting skills using a variety of media.

MATHEMATICS:

To develop skills and understanding in practical tasks, real-life problems and mathematical investigations. Areas of attainment include: Using and applying Mathematics - Number - Algebra - Shape and Space - Handling Data

SCIENCE:

To develop the ability to plan, hypothesise and predict; design and carry out investigations; interpret results and findings; draw inferences and communicate exploratory tasks and experiments.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

To develop an understanding and awareness of historical and geographical influences on Past and Present Peoples and their cultures.

MUSIC:

(In addition to specific Corelli first and second instrument studies, harmony, aural, choir, chamber music, and orchestral programmes of study). To involve pupils in the active and creative process of performing, composing, listening to, and appraising music in ways that promote individual growth and development.

TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN:

To encourage resourcefulness and ingenuity, and to develop skills related to planning, application, and construction, leading to appraisal of a finished product where appropriate.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:

To develop resourcefulness, ingenuity, and a sound understanding of the design process; from research and drawing of initial concepts, through to evaluating a finished product.

THE ARTS: (VISUAL)

To develop and encourage creativity; sense of style and individuality; and awareness of one's environment. Also to develop knowledge, understanding, and appraisal of the artworks of others. N.B. Performing Arts, such as Dance and Drama, will be covered by English and Music Programmes of Study.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH:

To develop physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being, to encourage a sense of purpose and self-awareness.
