Corelli Visual Arts ProgrammeCorelli Visual Arts - New Zealand's only full time, academic course offered at school level.

Why the Visual Arts?

  • Studying Art involves more than acquiring practical skills and technical knowledge, it involves the learning and appreciation of many subjects. Therefore the very nature of an art education brings about whole brain development. Art students acquire higher order thinking skills and problem solving abilities.

These elements and principles are explored in traditional and non-traditional approaches through the following disciplines:

  • Drawing (This discipline is compulsory and is approched from many angles with the aim to develop visual perception)
  • Corelli Visual Arts Programme Painting
  • Photography
  • Design
  • Three-dimensional studies
  • Art History and Art appreciation in cultural, international and local contexts.

Corelli follows the approach of many contemporary Art Schools and encourages mixed media. Students exposed to several Visual Arts disciplines have the opportunity to produce work across these discipline boundaries.

Outcomes for Visual Art Students

  • An IGCSE and AS level Art and Design qualification
  • A portfolio of art works
  • Art knowledge and appreciation of several visual arts disciplines.Students major in one area however are exposed to the other disciplines offered at Corelli.
